Traveling for the Moments
Created for Lonely Planet's "Less Than Three" competition, this film is part of my original inspiration to travel. I wanted to find out what it is that makes some people move and not others. Why do I want to travel and all my friends want stable jobs? I set out to film this question, but then got sidetracked having a great time. So here is the footage, coupled with some classic travel moments that remind me why I travel: cultural exchange, understanding and general/lovely random-ness....

"An Untimely Death" - a short film about time-travel
As part of the UFilm Fest for Australian university students, in which we were allowed to make a film about absolutely anything, two friends and myself decided to come up with a little science-fiction film. Inspired by such time-travel classics as 'La Jetée,' 'Twelve Monkeys,' and - of course - 'Back to the Future,' our film concerns a brilliant young inventor who miraculously creates a TT machine (from a dodgy old Mazda). Our hero goes back in time to try and change the very recent past ...
Time Travel: to the 1920s
A scrap of footage such as this, capturing the spontaneity of a moment 80 years ago, can become haunting on repeated viewings. The subjects are all dead, the location is likely something else now. Yet we can see the moment over and over. Indeed, film is the nuts, bolts and wiring of the only time machine we have!
