The Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors is a national, non-profit organization, incorporated in 1968 to raise the level of professionalism within the travel industry by offering a wide range of education programs.

Many education and training programs across Canada are recommended by CITC, a status that allows the provider to offer approved credits, a key component of the certification process You can choose from approved training or endorsed programs.

As the educational wing of the Canadian travel industry, CITC promotes the professional designations, CTC (Certified Travel Counsellor) and CTM (Certified Travel Manager). In addition, CITC maintains an up-to-date listing of Certified members in the National Directory of Certified Travel Professionals, and publishes a monthly newsletter for CITC members, called The Buzz.

We also offer value-added services to our members, such as the Employment Bulletin Board, where resumes and job opportunities can be posted. Other benefits include the Membership Awards program and, within the Members Only section of our web site, valuable information on how to market a certification.

Ongoing member support is provided by raising consumer awareness of the benefits of working with a CTC or CTM. This mandate is fulfilled by providing a locator to find CTCs and CTMs, participating in travel shows, issuing consumers newsletter and correspondence and through our renowned travel safety program, based on CITC’s Scam Watch booklets.

Investing in the CTC and CTM designation makes sense because when you learn more, you earn more, a benefit confirmed by research and the many testimonials we have received from Travel counsellors, and travel owner/managers.

It’s easy to learn about what’s necessary to obtain membership, submit an application or register for our advanced and entry level exams.

The CITC is fortunate to have Corporate partners, who support CITC's educational goals and programs, including Corporate Training, In-House Training, Distance Learning, Seminars on CD-ROM and Tele-Seminars.

Travel Info

While our primary mandate is to raise the level of professionalism within the travel industry, we also serve consumers by providing an outlet for consumer complaints about travel related issues and offering guidance on how to avoid travel scams.
