Smoke fills the air as 1218 exits Bramwell.
N&W 1218 slips slightly before it exits the Bramwell tunnel. Steam and smoke fills the air as she pokes out into the daylight. Smoke will continue the entire time the train exit, and continues for 15 minutes after the train is gone. Thanks to NS, this will NEVER be repeated with this locomotive again. Thanks for watching. N&W 1218 Departs Roanoke - October 12, 1991
The 1218 departs Roanoke, Virginia in spectacular fashion for Walton on October 12, 1991, in what would turn out to be one of the steam locomotive's final excursion runs. The class A 1218, built in 1943 in the Norfolk & Western's Roanoke Shops, was due for its five-year inspection the following Spring, and was never returned to service. Three years later, Norfolk Southern abandoned their steam excursion program, retiring the class J 611 and leaving the fate of the disassembled 1218 uncertain ...

First CSX trains after the Blizzard on 1994...
Southwestern Pennsylvania got hammered with a 30+ inch snow storm, which shut down the railroad, and everything else, for a few days. On January 4th, 1994, things started rolling again. We watch the first few trains pass my front porch, and at the crossing down the street at mp294 CSX Pittsburg sub. The snow clogged horns, sound pretty ruff, but it was still an impressive sight. The D&H Alco PA prepares to haul the north bound Adirondack at Coloney shops in Watervliet, NY. This is from my collection of Super 8 sound movie camera I had taken in the 70's. Video, and sound quality is poor, not to mention, camera shake, but may interest some people. To have the films re-edited would cost a small fortune, as I have eleven 400' reels of film. Let me know what you think, and maybe I will edit more classic films from the 70's...Thanks for watching. Jackmp294
Chessie 7614w with a smashed windshield...9/01/1979
While photographing the fairwell to the WM F's, we managed to get some other traffic. Chessie 7614 had just be hit by a rock thrower, and had his windshield smashed. After making a stop, the conductor used masking tape to fix the windshield to get to there next terminal. An east bound passes after with a C&O U25B more than likely on its final trip before retirement. Thanks for looking. Jackmp294

Part 3 of N&W 1218 2-6-6-4 Mallet Articulated in the Kansas City (Mo.) area. Video was shot with a late 1980's technology-Sony 8mm video camera. This is not professional video, but the subject matter at hand made it worth posting to youtube.
