"break away" -stopmotion short by blee
Description:
it gets good at 1:00. the music/video unsynched at times, but whatever! the file's too big to upload again. and sorry for the black bars (watch in HD/fullscreen! add &fmt=22) exeter student loses himself in a whimsical daydream of stopmotion dancing that lasts the whole day. friendship is made along the way, but eventually we all need to say our goodbyes. in the end, though we won't escape this world, we'll never lose our ability to dream and hope, and have fun making films with friends about dreaming and dancing. shots from swayze parkway, the film lab, my room in soule (tie was tied in a half-winsor), and across the PEA campus. songs: "singing in the rain (remix)" - mint royale "can i kick it" - a tribe called quest 2nd and final project for PEA filmmaking spring'09, to further experiment with shooting and editing movies. i chose to take digital stills to enable me to accomplish the long shot effect as well as improve the quality of the image. the fast-paced nature of stopmotion helps absorb the viewer into the magic of the fantasy-world. also, the technique is a special effect that lets me "dance" in ways that are impossible in reality, or at least for my skill level :P most scenes were shot in sequence and put together, with bad shots deleted, and also by editting one shot at a time, to be cut on the beat (direction was guided by the music choice) ~1000 photos used, shot (with a canon digital elph on highest settings) in 6 days totaling about 10 hours, 15+ hours of figuring out editing using final cut pro before the deadline, on an excruciatingly slow powermac g5. it was hectic, and didn't have time to fix a million things (render times were like 30 minutes) but it turned out how pretty much how i envisioned it, thankfully. big thank you to everybody who helped me out through this arduous but enjoyable process, it's incredible to have all that work amount to something.
