India: The Gupteswar Cave Shrine, Orissa

Title:
India: The Gupteswar Cave Shrine, Orissa

Description:
http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com The Gupteswar Cave Shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and located on top of a limestone hill. "Gupteswar" means "hidden God" and before climbing the 195 steps up, we stopped to purchase offerings for inside the cave and visited the holy river where pilgrims bathe before entering the cave. At the top, you walk down into the sanctuary where we made our devotions, coached by Bibhu, and had a red string tied around wrists by the priest.

India: Sunderbans Tiger Reserve
www.travelswithsheila.com Sunderbans is an unusual World Heritage Site. A delta with 102 islands of Mangrove Forest and supposedly 274 tigers. That is the "official" estimate which I sincerely doubt. One half of the jungle is under water at high tide, and with all the Magroves, you have to be lucky to see a Bengal Tiger swimming from island to island or on the mud flats at low tide. These tigers are man-eaters. Much easier to catch a villager than an animal and the islands closest to ...
India: A Jagganath Temple in Koroput, Orissa
www.travelswithsheila.com Experiencing different religions, people and foods in what makes travel so exciting to us. Bibhu is a devout Hindu (the main religion of India) and filled our heads with knowledge but with thousands of gods and goddesses along with different beliefs and concepts, we were forever getting lost. I'll just stick to Ganesh (the elephant god), someone I can always recognize. New priest blessings on us, we were ready to move on to the Kundali Friday Market.
