8:55 PM - 08/06/2009 - (Carbon County - Bowmanstown, PA - PA Turnpike - Mile Marker 72.3) Ronald Ewashko, Jr. was taken into custody and charged with DUI after crashing into a car and then going over the guide rail a down 80 foot embankment. State Police are reporting that Christa Sereta, 18, put her hazard lights on and pulled to the side of the road to make a phone call. Her Jeep was then hit by the truck driven by Ewashko. As a result of the crash she suffered injuries to her wrists and ribs (chest) and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital. Scanner reports indicate that the box truck was driving erratic for over 10 miles and motorist were calling him in to turnpike officials as he nearly wreck during that time. As it got dark he was even driving without lights. The Pennsylvania State Police investigated the accident. Emergency vehicles at the scene Bowmanstown, East Penn Township and Franklin Township Fire Departments. The Lehighton Ambulance transported the injured women. The accident scene was cleared on turnpike at 10:20 PM. The truck still needed to be removed from the scene by the turnpike towing service.
