The scrapped Boulder Scene Model

Title:
The scrapped Boulder Scene Model

Description:
Also known as... "How to fail at each and every feature of a model and never find a solution to fix any of them" =) Uploading this to show how far I got with the Boulder Scene model before scrapping it. You can sort of see the effect, but in very poor form. The biggest issue was the pulley and motor system that pulled the tunnel tube. Due to having a weak structure, the tunnel distorted when the plaster dried, causing the running rails to loose their parallel positions. When fitted to the drive rails, this distortion meant that there was a huge amount of resistance against the tunnels travel. The resistance was too great for the motor to overcome, so I had to turn the pulleys by hand. This resulted in a very slow and shuddering movement of the tunnel that rarely ran at the same speed as the boulders rotation. The base for the boulder was originally supposed to move via pulleys off the main tunnel, but since I only connected it at the back, it would often roll ahead of its movement and then stall while the tension caught up. AND THEN, when I put the car model inside to light the boulder with the headlights, one of the bulbs had blown =) Lots of problems adding up to a very bad result. And it wasn't worth my time correcting them with so many other projects needing funding and attention

Construct and Background
Since the love of Imagineering often extends into the love of knowing how things operate backstage and where ideas spawn from, I've decided to gather a few of the storyboard sketches I made years ago for my own version of Indiana Jones Adventure to show why exactly I built these models and why they look the way they do. I'm missing many of the scenes (filed somewhere amongst a million other papers..), but the key ones are there. The story of this Indiana Jones Adventure revolves around the ...
EMV motion run
There we go, everything is together and moving! =) The movements can be a little jittery, so I'll add some light springs later, but I'm calling this project done. No idea if the movements are realistic to the ride, I'm just plotting them myself. With a little practise...
The Rolling Boulder in Fullbright
Here is the same recent render of the rolling boulder scene, but it is done in fullbright, and recorded from an outside position, standing still.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Lost Eye with the Lights on!
They fixed the problem and we proceeded with the lights on... For a little while, anyway.
Spike room queue model
Another quick Indiana Jones Adventure study model, just because... This time of part of the queue line. The spike room. Vaguely represented. I wanted to try my hand at modelling rocky stone walls and flat painted cave interiors, as well as bamboo frame. I discovered half the illusion is down to lighting and sound, so I mocked up a quick presentation with some leftover lighting sets. Starting to wish I had made it with a descending ceiling... but I guess that can still be added! I also need a ...
sdf 0001
A brief look at a "Tower of Terror" ride show scene. I plan to compose a full show demonstration within this mockup, based around a new story I've devised for the attraction. This is separate from my other Tower of Terror ride design, with a different theme, story and style. For those who ask on information about how to build models like this- look at the exterior of the model in the wide pan scenes. You'll notice the crappy white cardboard and duct tape. There are no fancy materials here ...

Indiana Jones Adventure model- effects testing
The lighting rigs are fitted and the smoke machine is... bought. So now its time to see what it looks like in a moody "show" setting. I actually have complete control over the colours in the main lighting. So far, the best results come with a blue lit interior and a faint backlight of red, although that particular combination isn't shown here. This is with the main light on white, a secondary set on green and backlight of red that is a little too bright at the moment. The movement of the ...
The Big Room
At this point I might as well have just set out to build the entire ride in 1/50th scale or something, but eh, here we go again. Rumours are circulating that Disneyland Paris is going to score itself some Indiana Jones Adventure fun. Despite being only rumour at this point, its exciting enough for me to start dreamin' of what it might be like...
