Geology at LSC-Kingwood meets the Philippines in Second Life -Part 1

Description:
LSC-Kingwood's Second Life team worked with Geology 1405 Honors students to create a virtual showcase of sustainability projects developed as part of an EPA P3 competitive grant. Students in the spring Geology 1405 Honors sections traveled to the Philippines in March 2008 and 2009. During the Fall 2008 term, students used information gathered by the first Study Abroad/Service Learning group to recommend and develop projects for waste management and water conservation. The Spring 2009 cohort interviewed residents of the Humble Kingwood Gawad Kalinga (GK) village to fine tune their designs. Upon their return to the campus, they worked with their instructor, Dr. Cherith Letargo, to build scale models and test their designs. A second student team, working in Second Life, mirrored their project designs and also showcased a new GK village, the Nestle GK Eco-Village for future use. Students and faculty will travel to Washington DC in April to participate in EPA's P3 Expo.
