Title:
Volunteers Travel to Bethlehem to Provide Eye Care

Description:
BETHLEHEM, Israel -- Whether it was 2,000 years ago or today, people still travel long distances to reach Bethlehem. This month, a medical team from across the globe gathered in the city to provided desperately needed eye care. The group worked 12 to 14 hour days doing eye exams, handing out glasses and even performing cataract surgeries. The OBI team partnered with First Baptist Church of Bethlehem to do the medical outreach, which treated hundreds of people just before Christmas. "To them it's like new life, a new beginning," said Maria Wojtaszewski, who volunteered at the event. "All their life they couldn't see, but now they have a future and a hope."

Bethlehem Riots 2
This is a video following up my sprint to Hebron Road. Things seemed to calm down for a few minutes. The crowd of over five hundred protestors was spread out along Hebron Road in Bethlehem. By my estimates, the vast majority of protestors were between the ages of 10-20. The situation escalated when the Israeli humvees came back towards the crowd. Immediately people scattered. I ran into an alley of a lower level of a refugee camp. For a second, you can see an Israeli humvee that parked ...

Nurse from Milton spending nine months in Bolivia
For nurse Heather Szymczak, the chance to fly off to the remote rain forest of Bolivia for nine months is a dream come true -- but not for the usual reasons of travel and adventure. Ever since she was 15, Szymczak has volunteered to do humanitarian-aid work in Third World countries. This mission is different, she said, calling it "a test." Szymczak, 33, of Milton, has been awarded a nine-month fellowship by Massachusetts General Hospital, where she has worked for two years as a nurse on an ...

Bethlehem through children eyes
Over two thousand years ago, in a town called Bethlehem, the first Christmas was celebrated with the birth of Jesus Christ. On that most holy of nights, a small group of people became the first Christians through the celebration of Christ's virgin birth. It goes without saying that for a Christmas celebration to occur, the presence of a Christian people is a prerequisite. While Bethlehem, and much of the modern de facto state of Palestine, is the birth place of Christianity, it is also a ...
