Society Hill is a revitalized historic neighborhood in center-city that has luckily retained many of its 18th century buildings and homes. In the early 1960's when the much needed revitalization efforts began, master architect I.M. Pei was commissioned to design a residential building that would signal a new era of modernity, and yet respect Willian Penn's vision (founded Philadelphia in 1682) of Philadelphia as "a Greene Countrie Towne". This was obviously an enormous challenge, but I.M. Pei brilliantly succeeded. Society Hill Towers is the crowning achievement of this historic area's rebirth.
