Wayzata Today The Sun-Sailor webcast for Friday, Jan. 16: Council discusses future for munis
Description:
In a Tuesday-morning work session the Wayzata City Council discussed the future of its Municipal Liquor operation and potential sites for it. While remaining in the Wayzata Bay Center once it is redeveloped isnt completely off of the table, City manager Al Orsen said that other sites on Mill Street and Lake Street are also being discussed. No decisions have been made yet and the council will hold a public hearing to discuss the matter further at its Jan. 20 meeting. Contrary to reports by other media outlets and Wayzata residents that claimed the meeting was announced only 24 hours prior, it was announced and discussed by Orsen during the Jan. 6 Wayzata City Council meeting. • Another rumor floating around Wayzata is at this time exactly that a rumor, according to Wayzata Bay Redevelopment Company managing partner Ed Briesemeister. Speculation has been that the Bay Center would be taken down all at once, as opposed to the in multiple phases as it was in the original plan. Briesemeister acknowledged that Presbyterian Homes is considering changing its phasing process, but said no official decision has been made yet. He said that because there are a number of lease holders in the Bay Center nothing can be made official until something is worked out with those residents. While the phasing plan could be changed, at the moment there are a number of hurdles before that can happen. • The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of a man suspected in at least five bank robberies in the Twin Cities. The suspect is described as being a white male in his early 20s, about 510 between 150 and 170 lbs. with a thin build. The suspect has no facial hair, and his face is described as pockmarked. He typically wears a hooded sweatshirt or hat. In each robbery, the suspect hands a note to the teller stating that he has a gun. He also verbally stated that he has a gun and demands money. After receiving money, the robber leaves the bank on foot. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information concerning this suspect is asked to contact their local FBI office. • On the sports scene for this weekend, the Orono boys hockey team will travel to Mound tonight to play Mound-Westonka at 7 p.m. and the girls hockey team will play host to Cambridge-Isanti at 7 p.m. The Orono boys basketball team host Glencoe-Silver Lake tonight at 7:30 and the girls basketball team will travel to Glencoe-Silver Lake also starting at 7:30.
