January 2009 Nortel went into administration. On 30th March 2009 approximately 200 UK employees were made redundant - 87 from Monkstown. On 30th June a further 150 UK employees were made redundant. Correct procedures were not followed - no notice was given, no appeal allowed and no redundancy paid. The former employees have been carrying out a series of protests outside both Nortel and Ernst & Young. This is one of Nortel Monkstown's good humored protests. Nortel recently had an $8 million sponsorship deal for the 2012 Olympics cancelled.
