This video shows the WHO-TV (Des Moines) news segment about WIJ, which aired on 3/3/08. It was pretty cool and totally unexpected when WHO reporter Mark Tauscheck called me to set up the interview. He and his cameraman drove all the way to Anamosa on crappy roads in crappy weather to do this interview! Within a few days after the airing of this segment, my hit count jumped from 35,000 to almost 50,000. Thanks to computer guru Mark Taylor for recording this and sending it to me (we don't get WHO-TV in Anamosa!). Oh, Cameraman Jeff, did you lose a Seattle Mariners hat?

Too many clips were sitting idle on my hard drive from my travels around Iowa in 2007 and 2008. This video brings some of them to light, and serves as my WIJ video for 2009. I'm not sure what happened to the soundtrack at the 3:39 mark - this is one of the technical difficulties I'd been trying to deal with.

Baldy's Venison Feast
Filmed on 2/9/08 in the woods behind my house, this bald eagle is chowing down on what's left of a doe who succumbed to the Iowa winter. The coyotes had already gotten most of the good parts and you can hear the crows waiting their turn.
University of Iowa Hawkeyes
The University of Iowa, home of the Hawkeyes, is situated in east central Iowa. This promotional spot from the Big10 Network highlights the large university for higher learning.
Late 1960s WHO-TV Station ID (Mock version)
Using Windows Movie Maker and some materials at hand including an old TV Guide ad, I came up with a non-animated remake of a late-1960s filmed station ID once used by Des Moines' WHO-TV. In the actual version, both of the owl's eyes were open to start with, then the shot moved in toward his head as he closed and reopened his right eye to reveal the 13. If I could do it that way, believe me, I would. I have no idea if the station ever held onto their original film of this ID.
