CORMORANT DRYING WINGS

Title:
CORMORANT DRYING WINGS

Description:
Cormorant on a rock in the river Seaton at Seaton in Cornwall, a small village on the county's far south east coast. This is near the river mouth just behind the beach. Think this animal regularly does this as have seen it in exactly the same place doing the same thing last time we visited. You probably know this anyway but "after fishing, cormorants go ashore, and are frequently seen holding their wings out in the sun; it is assumed that this is to dry them. Unusually for a water bird, their feathers are not waterproofed. This may help them dive quickly, since their feathers do not retain air bubbles." I slip the sandals off my feet And drop them on the sand. As I walk dust clings and falls To my dry and weary soles; The prints I leave upon the ground Like words upon a scroll. Walk into the waves As the footprints fade ...

WOOD MOUSE ON GORSE BUSH
Wood mouse (i think?) apparently eating the husks of the Gorse flowers on a gorse bush overlooking the sea on the coast path of SE Cornwall between Looe and Polperro. He seemed very unconcerned by us !! I was impressed by his dexterity scampering around the spiny gorse leaves.
