Blessing of the Mountains
Description:
This is short video of the "Blessing of the Mountains" held on Nov. 5 in Ansted, West Virginia. The town is located on The Midland Trail, next door to Hawk's Nest State Park. Amvest Corporation's Powellton Coal Company owns 18,000 acres nearby and is gearing up for massive Mountaintop Removal on three neighboring mountains. The trees have been razed and shoved over the mountainside. Blasting will begin soon. Rev. Roy Crist conducted the blessing for the local residents as they gathered to bid farewell to the land. The footage of the mountain is really foggy -- as it was one of those typical hazy fall days in the mountains. Nonetheless, I managed to film the event and hope that their message reaches across the country. (B. J. Gudmundsson)
