Pherafilm
Description:
This is a re-creation of a character, Margaret Pheramone, that I played as part of a music, mixed media, and performance art collaboration with a former lover. The character embodied what my artist/collaborator wanted me to be: stylish, virginal, and vapid. Using only objects given to me by my collaborator, I made a life-size representation of this faux-self and orchestrated its demise. I built a raft and floated Margaret Pheramone out to the middle of Assonet Bay. At the intersection between shore, lights, memory, and the dooming depth of the water, I repeatedly pierced the raft with a knife - sending Margaret Pheramone to meet her fate at the bottom of the bay. As my shadow-self sank, my physical self awkwardly negotiated the floaties strapped to my forearms and doggy paddled 600 feet back to shore. The process was documented, edited and finalized with a song I wrote to make the video Pherafilm.
