Winter train ride through prairies

Title:
Winter train ride through prairies

Description:
During the cold Canadian winter, the snow-covered landscape becomes a black and white movie. Although this film was shot in colour, we can see only white fields and a kaleidoscope of black lines and dots. As we look out the windows of the Via train (travelling east through Manitoba), optical illusions begin to emerge. The fence posts appear to move backwards. The telephone poles flash in and out. The clumps of leaf-less trees appear to dance, jump, crawl, and shape-shift. Every once in a while, the illusions are broken by a road, a field, or a hill. But before long the illusions begin again. Look closely for the rare blips of colour. Shot Dec 27, 2007 at about 10am on Via train 2 eastbound between Brandon and Portage la Prairie, headed for Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada).

The line was constructed to haul silver & gold ore from the San Juan Mountains, but passengers soon realized it was the view that was truly ...
