Just a quick video from a day of mining at Mason's Ruby and Sapphire Mine. This Franklin, North Carolina area mine is one of the only native (unsalted) ones remaining in the area. It is a dig-your-own operation where you pay a flat day rate to go into the mine and dig buckets of dirt to clean off in the flume.

Gemstone Collection
Here is a short showing of my rock and gemstone collection. Most have come from NC at a place called Emerald village or Gem Mountain. They also will mail you big buckets of rocks for you to sort through, you get a lot of good stuff if you are into collecting gemstones. I got emeralds, rubies, sapphires, etc from one of my buckets.

Cherokee is one of the only completely native (unsalted) operations remaining in the area, and some of the best rubies in the region (in North America, for that matter) are to be found here. In addition, the family who runs it are really the most wonderful and helpful folks in the world. Definitely worth a visit, for any planning to visit the area!
