Tony Stewart proved he is still solidly in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase with a win today at Kansas Speedway. Stewart held off Jeff Gordon who mounted a late race charge. Gordon was slowly gaining on Stewart in the closing laps of the third race in the ten-race Chase but ran out of time. The victory was sealed when Stewart's crew chief Darian Grubb decided to go with two tires on the final pit stop when many of the leaders took four. Because Stewart was out front and had clean air, the two-tire strategy worked. When asked immediately after the race about Grubb's decision, Stewart smiled and said, "You don't question him!" "But to break it down a little more complicated than that," he said in a post race press confernece, "the good thing was we got two tires at the end there, and Darian made a great call getting two, and the guys had an awesome stop. That was really what it boiled down to," Stewart said praising his team and crew chief.
