Beginning July 1 , 2009 drivers w st ithin Nevada will be prohibited from driving upon areas of roadways which are not specifically designated for vehicular travel a practice which in the past has resulted in accidents on our roadways. Assembly Bill 417 which was passed in the last legislative session modifies two state laws; NRS 484.297 and NRS 484.311. NRS 484.297 has been amended to restrict the conditions under which a driver can use what is commonly know as a storage lane in order to pass a line of stopped vehicles. Beginning July 1st drivers will be restricted to a travel distance of 200 feet within a storage lane, and cannot pass an intersection or driveway, a common cause of accidents. NRS 484.311 prohibits a motorist from traveling outside of a marked travel lane, and specifically addresses crossing the white lines which separate highway entrance and exit lanes from travel lanes. Many motorists routinely cross these markings, known as gore lines, when entering a highway. This practice, again the cause of accidents upon our roadways, is now specifically prohibited.
