Fort Augustus
Fort Augustus - a bustling village at the southwestern end of Loch Ness, about 16 miles from Aspenwood Holiday Cottage. This is where the Caledonian Canal, with its many stepped lock gates, comes into operation for boating purposes enabling travellers to continue their journey. It is well worth a walk along the side of the Caledonian Canal watching the various boating craft in the lock gates waiting to go on their way. Various eateries, shops, petrol station. It is possible to travel from the east coast to the west coast of Scotland by various waterways along the entire length of the Great Glen.

The geological fault that split the Highlands almost three hundred and fifty million years ago with a deep rift was referred to as 'Glen More nan Albin' of which the peaty waters of Loch Ness runs for nearly a third of its length. The fault line itself continues under the sea towards Northern Ireland and is still regarded as the most active earthquake zone of Great Britain. The Loch, although twenty-four miles long, is not the deepest or the longest loch in Scotland, but like Loch Lomond, it certainly is one of the most famous.......because of........
Inverness Part 3 Loch Ness
Part 3 takes you on a leisurely cruise up The Caledonian Canal to Loch Ness turning around at Urquhart Castle. This is the land of the Jacobite clans. You will see how a kilted army could disappear in the foliage and stones of Highlands as the Army of King George burned and sacked the area..
