Positional MRI dispels conventional wisdom on posture
A group of Scottish researchers has discovered that the conventional wisdom on the correct posture when sitting -- upright with back and thighs at a 90-degree angle -- might actually be a cause of back pain. They used a positional MRI scanner that can image patients in weight-bearing positions to assess the degree of strain produced by several commonly used sitting positions. You might be surprised by the results.
