A summer weekend at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Florida, camping and canoeing along the Loxahatchee River in Florida. Although we did not see or encounter any alligators, a week after, to the day, on June 19th 1993, Bradley Weidenhamer a 10 year old boy was killed by an 11'4" alligator while wading in the Loxahatchee River in Jonathan Dickinson State Park at 6:00 in the evening.

Ruth and I paddled 100 km in two days. The second day we started paddling at 2 pm and didn't quit until we arrived in Red Rock Marina at 3 am the next morning. When we did get there, everything we had taken with us was completely saturated with water: the last 10 k of the trip we had waves breaking in our canoe and subsequently got entirely soaked. 2 days & 2 nights on the Shoal and Yellow Rivers in northwest Florida bordering Eglin Air Force Base. 38 miles total distance. Steve and I got a late start and caught up to Floyd the next day.
