![]() | President Mahinda Rajapaksa challenges UNP to win east polls President Mahinda Rajapaksa calls on the UNP to refrain from avenging innocent civilians obstructing international aid. UNP reprisals are aimed at averting the flow of foreign aid to Sri Lanka. (30/03/2008) Addressing the 18th SLFP Convention at Temple Trees this morning, he claimed it was the innocent civilians who are hindered as a result. The President noted that there is a posse, which raise voices abroad that human rights are violated in Sri Lanka. Not only the UNP, but some of their own leaders are canvassing to prevent the flow of aid to Sri Lanka and also to thwart the GSP Plus relief granted by Europe. These elements are not rising up against him or the government but avenging the civilians. They can take revenge from him and not from the people. This was the message that he had to give them. The theme of the Convention was "Building a peaceful Country with local economy In the forefront". A highlight was the adoption of 10 resolutions. These included expressing gratitude to the international community, the All Party Conference proposals, granting relief by de-escalating the cost of living, proposal on eastern local polls and saluting the gallant soldiers. President Rajapakse handed over certificates to electoral organizers, who recruited the most number of members to the SLFP last year. 14 such organisers were honoured. The President further said the government was able to fulfill pledges given to the people through the Mahinda Chintana. 28 political parties supported him to become President and a pledge was given that the North and East will be liberated from the terrorists. He observed that the government had fulfilled this task, safeguarding the country's unitary status. Ministers Maithripala Sirisena and Jeyaraj Fernandopulle also expressed their views. Many SLFP activists and representatives of political parties supporting the government were present |

![]() | Tamil Eelam: Current War Situation War Heroes show great zeal to the Commander-in-Chief President Mahinda Rajapaksa meets injured War Heroes at Anuradhapura Hospital [Click to magnify/shrink] His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, paid a visit to the military ward of the National Hospital, Anuradhapura, on Sunday (July27). During his visit, he spoke to the injured war heroes and exchanged sentiments with them. Also, he spoke with the relatives of the injured soldiers who were visiting their loved ones at the time and comforted them with his deep feelings for their injured kith and kin and wished them speedy recovery. During his conversations with the injured war heroes, the President was surprised to know the great zeal displayed by the soldiers even on their hospital beds. A soldier who had lost one of his legs in the battlefield, inquired from the President whether he is going to stop the present mission, as claimed by some newspapers. The President asked the soldier from where had he got to know that false news and ensured him that the noble mission would not stop until the motherland is fully liberated from terrorism. "I am the President, take my word, this will be ended when Prabhakaran is brought to your feet", he said. Another soldier who had lost both legs told the President that he would join his comrades at the battlefield as soon as the doctors let him get out of the hospital. Download Video "Sir, I have lost my both feet, but I still have my hands; when the doctors put me out of this place, I will go to the battlefield and fight with the terrorists with my hands in order to liberate Kilinochchi," he said. Later, the President speaking at a mammoth public rally revealed what he was told by the war heroes. He said those great war heroes he had met were expecting to return to the battlefield once their wounds were healed, to fight the battle against terror to an end. "That is our hope, the hope of all the citizens of this country. I would say that the time is not too far when we give the same democratic freedom that we have given to the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people in the East, to the people living in Kilinochchi and Mullaittiuvu", he said. "We feel that in our hearts," he added. Speaking further, he earnestly requested all soldiers who are absent from their duties to join with their comrades at the battlefield to fight the final battle. " Therefore , I request , I implore , all our soldiers who had gone on leave and not reported back to service , to come back and join our gallant forces to win this final battle" , he said. " Contribute your strength to the country , return to its service," asked the President. The President further said that there is no war in the country to have a ceasefire but a humanitarian mission that cannot be abandoned. "We do not fight a war, we are only engaged in a humanitarian mission. It is a mission aimed at letting people to live in freedom ", he said. Therefore , he asked the people to have faith in the government that it would liberate the country from terrorism in the near future. http://smsfree4all.com/free-sms-srilanka.php |
