At the 2008 census the population is 566,447. The population of the metropolitan area (urban area plus satellite towns) is 1.100.082, ranking as the fifth largest metropolitan area in Spain. Málaga is surrounded by mountains, lying in the southern base of the Axarquía hills, and two rivers, the Guadalmedina - the historic center is located on its left bank - and the Guadalhorce, which flows west of the city into the Mediterranean. The day events consist of live music and dancing, while the night fair is moved to the Recinto Ferial, consisting of restaurants, clubs, and an entire fair ground with rides & games. Gibralfaro Gibralfaro is a mount of 131 meters, located in Málaga Málaga province in south-east Spain. It dates back to the time when the Phoenicians founded the present city of Malaga. At the beginning of the14th century, Yusuf I of the Kingdom of Granada constructed Gibralfaro Castle, on an old Phoenician enclosure. The name is derived from the Phoenician word for light, Jbel-Faro, meaning "Rock of Light". At the end of 2005, a thick forest of pine s and eucalyptus trees were planted on the hill. On its outskirts are the historical buildings of the Seminary and Malaga Fortress. A principios del siglo XIV, Yusuf I de Granada construyó en su cima el castillo homónimo, sobre un antiguo recinto fenicio que también contenía un faro, de donde proviene el nombre del cerro (Jbel-Faro, o roca del faro). El monte se encuentra cubierto por un espeso bosque de pinos y eucaliptos.
