MERRIMAC, USS
The USS Merrimac was a collier built as the merchant ship Solveig in New Castle, England, in 1894. She was purchased by the Navy in April 1898, and began supplying coal to US warships operating off Cuba during the Spanish-American War.

Endymion Rock - Turks and Caicos
For hundreds of years, ships leaving Hispañola bound for Europe had difficulty clearing a hidden reef near the Turks Island Passage. The HMS Endymion met its fate here and has since become the area's namesake, now known as Endymion Rock. In 2007, the Waitt Institute partnered with Dr. Donald H. Keith of Ships of Discovery and the Turks and Caicos National Museum to map the HMS Endymion and to investigate the identity of wreck nearby.
