Millions of people have seen John F. Kennedy jerk backwards in the Zapruder film, and think that proves he was shot from the front. But some time ago, the Mythbusters showed that reasoning was wrong: a bullet does NOT propel a person in the direction of the shot, contrary to what people tend to think and what Hollywood shows. If the bullet hit the right spot, it might trigger an involuntary muscle spasm, causing a much more violent reaction than the kinetic energy of the bullet itself could produce. However, while that explanation could reasonably cover 'the victim's limbs flew out and he crashed over on his back,' it kind of falls apart when you try to stretch it into 'the victim hurtled fifteen feet backward.' "
