San Gabriel mountains off Highway 39 (Azusa). I (Michael A Lopez) traveled to the south side of the mountain trail. The trail is about 17 miles up and 17 miles all the way back down, however making the round trip 34 miles total. The elevation is at 3,000 feet ending at 8,000 feet with a breathtaking views at the zenith of the mountain. My intention was to document the entire Red Box Trail returning through Cogswell Dam that turns into Bear Creek Road. Cogswell Dam is a water reservoir used today for water conservation. The water from the mountains runs to the San Gabriel water reservoir and is mixed with salmenated water. Documented all the flora and fauna along the mountain trail. The month was October 15, at 5:45 A.M. All the wild flowers were in bloom and wind carried various fragrances. Early morning dew at every turn a serene view compelling you to venture forth into the mist on the ridge trail. The vegetation on the south side of the mountain trail grows vegetation that can withstand more sun light. The plant life require less water to survive therefore making the wild plants vary resilient to the elements of the weather, however the vegetation growing in the northern side of the trail grows plant life that thrives in more shade. These plants are all indigenous to California. Spectacular views of the mountain escarpment compels me to return from season to season, but that's another adventure.
