The Writer
Pierre Jaquet-Droz's automaton built between 1768 and 1774. It was not a computer, but was able to write custom lines of text up to 40 characters long. I cannot understand the commentary, but watching it at work is truly fascinating. (c)TIL Productions - Director : Philippe Sayous More videos on : www.automates-anciens.com
Nancy - The Automaton
A late 19th century stage automaton, designed to be driven by a hand crank from under the stage. She is larger than life. Made of Papier Mache, she moves her eyes, eyelids, head turn and nod, heaving chest, bend at waist, cross legs, both arms and right wrist. Nancy is sewing! I have photos of Nancy's restoration on the website: www.automatomania.com Nancy also has her own Facebook profile under "Nancy Turner".
Sausage Automaton
This automaton is on display at the Museum of Automatons in La Rochelle France. Such Automatons were popular in the early 20th century as window adverts. This one, meant for a butcher, features an endless stream of pigs going into a meatgrinder, coming out as sausage links directly into the gaping jaws of a creepy reclining man using a ham as a pillow.
