You can buy a pass to drive over most of the island, and we tried it with a 2007 Subaru Outback Sport (the "outback" trim level of the Impreza). We were the only "car" we saw there... everyone else had real suv's, but despite our driving over roughly 40 miles of sand, we only got stuck once!
