Southside Bethlehem Keepin' It Real
Description:
This is a visual depiction of Southside Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, circa February 2009. These photos are near and dear to me because the old neighborhoods of the Southside are near and dear to me. I grew up on Wyandotte Street, near Fountain Hill, and I lived on the Southside till I was 14 (1977-1991). Back then Bethlehem Steel was still an industrial powerhouse, although its influence shrank yearly until 1995, when the entire production of steel ended. By that time I had moved to the "other" side of town...i.e. North Bethlehem. But that's another story for another day. Enjoy! (P.S. For those not familiar with the area, South Bethlehem will be home to the new $800 million Las Vegas Sands Bethlehem casino beginning in May of this year. You may notice cranes and/or other signs of construction in the backgrounds of some of the photos. Things are about to change big time in this little corner of the world.)
