Steam and Diesel at Moscow Pennsylvania

Title:
Steam and Diesel at Moscow Pennsylvania

Description:
On Oct. 4th 2009, both a passenger steam train led by Steamtown's CN 3254 and a special historical varnish car run led by two Delaware Lackawanna RS-3's were on the Pocono Mainline. Seeing steam power and classic diesel runs in the same day is a real treat. Here they pass a restored DL&W station with freight house and old signal bridge. If you were ever lucky enough to wake up in the middle of a summer night to the sound of a steam locomotive passing in the distance, you would not ever forget the haunting sound of the whistle as it neared a crossing or the hissing of steam escaping slowly dwindling into the darkness as it continues it's journey. The sight and sounds of the steam locomotive are so unique an experience, we are lucky to have a few examples still running around the landscape for many to enjoy. No description or ...

Steamtown CN 3254 to Tunkhannock Viaduct -before the tunnel
On September 12 2009, Steamtown ran a trip north across the Tunkhannock Viaduct. The viaduct was part of a cutoff to reduce train time, fuel and wear that was finished in 1915. This huge reinforced concrete multi-arched structure dominates the valley and the little town of Nicholson below it. In this video we see the steamer and passenger cars pushing up the grade before the long tunnel that precedes the viaduct. The exhaust steam had been fairly white up to this point but turned very black ...
Steamtown 2-8-2 3254 - Slipping West of Cresco
Returning from the Delaware Water Gap with a 10-car excursion, Steamtown's ex-Canadian National 2-8-2 3254 battles one of the worst sections of the Pocono Mt. grade, west of Cresco PA on the former DL&W mainline. After some serious slips at the Devils Hole Rd. grade crossing, 3254 actually stalled a little further up the line and had to be rescued by the 2 DL Alcos serving as westbound protection. Power for the outbound trip, is powered by 2 classic alco C424 diesels, #2461 and #2452 down to the Delaware Water Gap.
