SDJA AP Biology DNA Lab

Title:
SDJA AP Biology DNA Lab

Description:
Professor Curt Wittenberg, a molecular geneticist at Scripps Research Institute and an SDJA parent, came in to do a lab with the students. They separated pieces of DNA using gel electrophoresis. The students learned how to calculate the sizes of DNA fragments based on the distances that they travel in the gel. It was a great opportunity for the kids to see and perform a sophisticated lab technique that is used in crime scene investigations, paternity tests, medicine, and genetic research. www.sdja.com

Microchip Electrophoresis System for DNA/RNA Analysis : DigI
diginfo - movie.diginfo.tv multina from Shimadzu is a microchip electrophoresis system to quickly and easily perform DNA and RNA nucleic acid size confirmation and quantitation in life science research. Using a microchip, this system conducts high-speed electrophoresis separation automatically, while achieving high sensitivity with fluorescence detection. multina automates all the processes that previously required manual work. The user only has to set a sample and a reagent and start a ...

"lab on a chip" device using nanochannels and electrophoresis. you can see bulk DNA on the right, an empty channel on the left. as I switch on the electric voltage you can see single DNA molecules moving across 80nm channels by electrophoretic migration. ref.
