Title:
Carter Family Band * 2001 Avoca Festival
Description:
August 2001 at Avoca Old Time Country Music Festival. This dynamic family band led by their father, Forrest Carter changed its name from "The Carter Family" to "The Forrest Carter Band" and finally to "Silk and Saddle" because they were always being confused with the original "Carter Family." Their name might confuse you, but their performances are a force to be reckoned with. I met them at the 1999 Avoca Festival, and their were in high demand to sit-in with numerous musicians. Frankie, at that time was only 12-years old and he beat out all the men in the guitar picking contest! Fiddler Amber-Dawn was kept busy on numerous stages, and even sat in on one of my numbers on the South Texas stage, one of the festival's most popular stages. During the 1990s this hot group even had their own theater in Branson, Missouri. The last I heard was [2003] that they were being signed to the RCA label in Nashville. They've been playing at some of my former hangouts there also, like Roberts Western Wear and the Bluegrass Inn.
