The Green Mesquite on Barton Springs Road & Lamar in Austin

When you get to the intersection of South Lamar and Barton Springs Road, as you surely will if you come to Austin for the Austin City Limits Festival sometime, you will first see an old gas station made into a bar. Damn good move, and then The Green Mesquite Barbecue (Beerjoint) and you are home baby. I don't know what beef ribs cost now but they were $12.95 for all you can eat back when I could eat plenty. Oh, way more than plenty. I can't do it now and I probably couldn't afford it anymore anyway, but I have memories. Sweet memories that would make a vegetarian recoil in horror. I can still feel the meat caught between my teeth.
