Franklin Park Illinois Grand Avenue Underpass at Christmas 2008

Title:
Franklin Park Illinois Grand Avenue Underpass at Christmas 2008

Description:
Grand Avenue in Franklin Park Illinois is a main gateway connecting the village to the east. To the east is Chicago and Triton College. For almost fifty years train tracks bisected the village. The flow of traffic and movement to the east and west was hampered when the train gates came down. Many times motorists would have to wait up to an hour for the trains to clear the crossing. And when the train cleared the crossing one was lucky if the other crossing, only seven hundred feet away was clear of a train. An underpass was talked about for years with money for surveys and expenditures assessed. The village lived with this problem until Mayor Dan Pritchett decided to press ahead with the underpass. All the players lined up including Chicago, Congressmen, Senators and the State of Illinois. The Grand Avenue Underpass was finally completed. A little known fact is that President Obama forwarded money to make the project a reality.
