On 24-Sep-2008, 100 years and 5 days after being despatched to Australia by its Munich manufacturer, Krauss narrow-gauge locomotive 'JACK' was relocated from the Thirlmere Rail Heritage Centre to Lake Macquarie Light Rail. The locomotive is an exhibit owned by the NSW Rail Transport Museum and has been leased to LMLR. 5197 is an S160 class built in the USA during WWII and used by the US Army Transport Corps in Britain. The foot crossing follows the route of a tramway that served the ironstone mines below Raven Rocks, though that used a large wooden bridge to cross both the railway and the canal.
