Shimmering Steel
Surface of steel which has been heated to high temperature. After austenitising at 1200 degrees Celcius for 2 days in vaccum. Facets on the surface probably cause this shimmering effect, these could form at high temperature and correspond to the size of the austenite grains (very large ~ 5mm)

1/8-27 NPT Pipe Threads
Here is my CNC lathe cutting some pipe threads. I finally got the earlier problems resolved with it jumping around during spindle synchronized motions. It turned out to be noise on the signal lines from my spindle inverter. Shielding, better grounding, and a pull down resistor fixed it.
thermite powered, alloying furnace
December 8th, 2007. Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The proto run of my thermite powered, exothermic alloying furnace I call the Star Chamber. I successfully alloyed rhenium, niobium and nickel, to pure iron, with no carbon. Made totally stable, room temperature austenite. Corrosion resistant, heat resistant, non magnetic. I have a provisional patent. Called it "Rhenaissance steel". A play on spelling, due to the rhenium. BTW, rhenium has the 3rd highest melting point of all elements ...

Sandvik CoroThread 266 with iLock interface
High precision threading performance is essential for the oil, gas and mechanical engineering sectors. A stable threading tool and cutting edge which remains rigid in extreme forces, is vital for this precision. Sandvik Coromant now launches corothread 266, a group of ultra-rigid threading tools, benefitting from new threading technology to give the insert ultra-high stability and limit movement in the holder pocket. This stability is achieved with an ilock interface between insert-shim and ...
