Welcome to Brian's YouTube video memories in honor of my mother Elvera Nelson. This version of the slide show was originally created by Brian Nelson and cousin Jim Radford in 1998 for the funeral and memorial service of Elvera Nelson 1907-1998. She died at the age of 90 after 90 blessed very good years on this planet. She left here to see her friend the Lord with whom she was so well acquainted. This is slide show No.1 of 7 different slide shows. The total run time for all 7 videos is 31 minutes. Bookmark this page now and come back to watch it when you have more time. You can also send it to someone by using the address bar above or by searching Youtube for "Elvera Nelson ". These videos are done in about 5 minute segments by videotaping them off screen no.1 on my computer recording the audio and video on a SDR-S150 Panasonic camera that records directly to a tiny 2GB SD chip. It was a fast way to put it up something of memory on her birthday. Of course it would be nice if the photos were not so faded but I think they are good enough to remember the moment by. If you see yourself in any of these photos e-mail me which of the 7 slide shows. For those of you who knew Elvera, you may recall that her birthday June 23 was often celebrated almost as a national family holiday since most of the Nelson relatives gathered at that time for a Nelson reunion in northern Wisconsin. YouTube allows up to 100 megabytes or 10 minutes as a maximum length. This is not edited. Of course I don't know some of the people in the photos. Most of her very old friends are now deceased. Elvera is purposely in about 95% of the photos because this slide show was a recap of her life. I didn't forget my beloved father Phil Nelson. He is in many of the photos and in the title bar of this YouTube.com video. My special thanks to my cousin Jim Radford, Shoreview Minnesota who did most of the work on this initial taping 9 years ago. The original video has deteriorated some but now has been transferred to DVD by Jim for long term use.. Most of the photos were from mother's 10,000 photos collected over her 90 year life span. We sorted these during the last 10 days of her life as she lay in a coma. A severe stroke would not let her return to normal so it was just a matter of days before her death. She hung on to life until all the immediate family had arrived for this wonderful memorable occasion to celebrate life as she would have wanted it rather than mourning her physical loss. She is now where we all should want to be. Many pictures are in Ironwood Michigan, Lake Gogebic, MI, Pine Lake Wisconsin, Madison WI, Minneapolis, MN and Houston, TX Mother loved to be behind as well as in front of her Kodak (a camera by other people). Starting with her old Brownie camera she recorded many wonderful events in her life with her husband Phil and their 3 children Dean, Brian and Sharon.. Sharon was the baby and Brian was known as the middle child. Elvera would gladly pose for anything to make a memorable moment by the camera. Then you could look at them many years later as you "Organize Your Files" as she would say. I wonder how many pictures she would taken if she had today's digital camera where the price of film processing and the developing film is almost free? Phil died of cancer at the age of 67, (my age) in 1973. He was a master carpenter. In his single years he built the log cabin on Lake Gogebic where they spent their honeymoon in 1936. ![]() | Caylee's Hope Foundation About Caylee Caylee was 4 yrs old when she passed and was completely full of life. There was never a bad moment, never a bad memory, except the one where she died. Caylee comes from the word Katherine, meaning - PURE - and she sure was. All of my children had an upper respitory infection and had been to the doctor's the week prior and put on Zithromax. She was over the cough and on day 7 of the treatment, she got a 99.1 fever(Thursday March 3, 2005,). She was still acting like a healthy kid. We had been for a field trip to the Fire Station the day before. On Friday, she had begun vomiting. I thought it was a stomach virus. Saturday, she had stopped vomiting, was dry heaving and not keeping anything down, I took her to Healthpoint After Hours Pediatrics. They diagnosed it as a Stomach Virus. I let her sleep Sunday except when she wanted to go to Church, she ate some breakfast, but was tired because of the Promethazine they had given her. Monday morning she looked worse, we took her to her Pediatrician about 9am. He immediately diagnosed it on sight as Leukemia, Monday, March 7, 2005. We were devastated. He said, "This is not a Death Sentence like it used to be." We took her to the St. Joseph's Tampa Children's Cancer Institute and they aspirated blood from her marrow and diagnosed it as ALL with a 80chance of survival, this was the initial early diagnosis. The next morning the final results came in and it was not ALL, but AML and now the prognosis was 40with Chemo and 65with a Transplant. My whole world seemed to end at that moment. The Oncologist gave us her road map and said it would mean 10 days of Chemo and then more treatments lasting 2 1/2 years and then she may relapse and need a bone marrow transplant and could eventually die. With 20 years of experience, they had never seen or expected anything like this. Her WBC was 283,000 and when they started Leukopheresis, a treatment that cleans out all unnecessary white blood cells. Her count came down momentarily to 190,000 and then went back up to 220,000 with an hour left of the treatment. Her heart rate was now at almost 200, they had to put a ventilator in and they explained that we could lose her. They had to resuscitate her twice, 2 minutes and back on Support. She was not clotting and I was told she probably was not going to make it through the night. I told them to keep trying. I could not fail her. Our priest, Father Rich from St. Catherine's Episcopal Church was there and he said, "The last bit of love you can give her is to let her go." I knew he was right when the bags of blood they were putting in to stabalize her started coming back out. She was bleeding to death, so we had to make a decision to let her go before she did. The Hematologists said that it would be far worse if that happened. I could not bear to do that to her. So, I told them to disconnect her and give her to me. I held her for a long time. I touched her little feet and hands and rubbed her tummy that had hurt so much and kissed her over and over again. I told her that I was so sorry that this happened to her and that I loved being her mommy and that I was lucky to have had that opportunity. She died at 8:13 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2005. In November, her class made cards for Thanksgiving. Caylee's card said she wanted to thank Papa for taking her fishing, mommy for buying her things and Jesus for giving her TV. The last thing she said to us just a couple of hours before she passed was, "Papa, I want to watch TV." I want to think that Jesus was standing there telling her whenever she was ready to go home just say it. I think it was her way of saying to us she was ready. She closed her eyes and did not open them or ever speak again. I truly believe she was already gone. She showed her depth when she later created and hosted an original series of specials called "Born Famous", and won an Emmy for her work as a talk show host on "Mid-Morning Los Angeles". She fought for the underdogs (especially women), and her charity work was unending. She died on July 14, 2000, at just fifty-six years old. Perhaps the most memorable thing about my mother was her smile. This website honors her memory. The Biography Section gives you personal insight into Meredith Mac Rae, the woman and mother, as well as Meredith Mac Rae, the personality. The ever-changing Photo Gallery includes family pictures, and photos of Meredith with her many famous friends including Bob Hope and Magic Johnson. Video clips are coming soon. The Charity Section shows you the job she loved most. The Merchandise Section gives you the opportunity to customize your own piece of memorabilia by choosing one of several autographed photos to put on a mug, T-shirt, Sweatshirt, or coaster. I hope you enjoy the journey. Sincerely, Allison Mullavey (Meredith Mac Rae's Daughter) Mac Rae -- Mullavey Productions MACARE FAMILY NOT AFFILATED WITH ANY OF MY WORK ON THIS SITE.
