[Notes:IN FLOOD FARM] In Bartholomew county, farmer Marshal Middendorf says up to three-quarters of his corn and bean crops are under water.(SOT: MARSHALL MIDDENDORF/FARMER)(8:00) WHEN IT RAINS 11 INCHES, THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO. He says it's the second rough growing year in a row.(SOT: MARSHALL MIDDENDORF)(5:00) LAST SUMMER IT WAS DROUGHT. WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH WATER. YEAR TO DATE SO FAR I'VE HAD ABOUT 36 INCHES OF RAIN AND IT'S ONLY THE 11TH OF JUNEMiddendorf has crop insurance, but he says he'd rather have the crops than the money. [Notes:kcrg]In Cedar Falls, Iowa a sandbagged levee is keeping the Cedar River from overflowing its banks. Other communities along the same river have ordered evacuations due to saturated ground and overwhelmed pumping stations. So here it is again. this is from the other side of the bridge where the water was coming out. The main site of interest is the other side. I'll try to get that as well. It was about an inch off the top of that bridge. but the sandbags were much higher. |
