Fun with Science: Milk, Food Coloring and Dish Soap
I was told to use skim milk, that whole milk wouldn't work, but then I read that the higher the fat content, the better. So I don't know, now. Skim worked fine, but maybe we'll try half and half or something the next time. Warning! Science content: The soap reduces the surface tension of the milk by dissolving the fat in the milk, allowing the food coloring to sink into the milk, but then rising again in a different part of the milk.
Experiments with Static Electricity
This video is really charged. Watch as physics students study static electricity. See statically charged hair-dos, including the static mohawk. The ultimate site for observing the "double double tape trick." Balloons are repelled, water is attracted. You can try these tricks at home.
