The Battle of Fredericksburg (Part 2: "Hail Caesar")

Title:
The Battle of Fredericksburg (Part 2: "Hail Caesar")

Description:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Fredericksburg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharsalia The Union forces began crossing the pontoon bridge, while Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain recounts a passage from Marcus Lucanus regarding Caesar's crossing of the Rubicon river in the Civil War between he and Pompeius. Using this space to get this out of the way, I should say that the Union army did attempt to flank the Confederates, and attacked the lines of A.P. Hill and Thomas Jackson far left of the town of Fredericksburg itself. However, the core action in the video clips focuses on the charges made against Longstreet's lines on Marye's heights.

Battle of Gettysburg - 15,000 Strong
A video response to the multitude of comments I've been receiving on the videos for Pickett's Charge, going on and on and on accusing Lee of being stupid, blaming Lee for the failed attack, and outright accusing him of faulty planning and thinking in the charge. We today have the gift of foresight, in knowing that the attack failed because of faulty Southern artillery, which overshot its intended targets. Lee intended a Napoleonic tactic in which all the Southern artillery would smash Union ...

Pickett's Charge (Part 3: The Battle)
en.wikipedia.org As if marching an entire mile wasn't exhausting enough, the lines of Pickett, Pettigrew, and Trimble's Divisions were ripped apart by Union artillery and infantry. Holes were torn in the Confederate lines. At one point, the Union troops began to try and flank the marching Confederates. Little could be done by the Confederate forces but continue to march, and push the presumably decimated Federal lines back, thus breaking them and sending them into a panic-stricken rout....

The 20th Maine was very literally the extreme left end of the Union army. If they broke and the Confederates got past, they would be behind Union lines. With Hood wounded in the fighting in Devil's Den, mclaws took command of Hood's division. The first Confederate regiments to hit the ...
