Solo Groove on my newly restored Vintage 1971 Ludwig Gold Sparkle Super Classic Drum Kit

This is a test run on my newly restored 1971 Ludwig Super Classic in Gold Sparkle finish. I am checking out head selection and tensioning. The heads are as follows: snare - fiberskyn batter and renaissance snare side toms - coated amb batter and ludwig coated medium wm reso bass - evans eq3 clear batter and coated amb reso The cymbals are a mixed bag. There's a Zildjian Constantinople 16 crash, a Zildjian K thin crash, a Sabian 18 HH Prototype crash, and a pair of Sabian HH Prototype hi-hats. All of the stands are Slingerland flat base from around 1971. I love that series. Just goofing around and checking the equipment. all gold drums are 3 ply maple/poplar/maple - clear interior the snare is 3 ply mahogany/poplar/mahogany - white interior This one was the kit that I had wanted to do for a long time. My first kit was a 64 Ludwig Super Classic in red sparkle. Like so many comic book collections, it disappeared. I loved that kit. I did this one in gold sparkle because Dolenz' Gretsch kit impressed me so much on the Monkees. I spent a lot of time staring at that kit and imagining what it would be like to play a gold sparkle kit. The snare is a 1961 Ludwig Super Classic in blue sparkle. It's has WFL nickle hardware and a red baseball bat. Sweet drum.

 | Vintage Ludwig "Club Date" Drum Set This is a 1962 Vintage Ludwig "Club Date" style drum set in Gold Sparkle. The Club Date series of drums used the same 3 ply shells as Ludwig's more expensive "Classic" line but used a center lug design as a cost saving measure. These drums sound great, possibly in part due to the lower mass mounted on the shell. Due to their slightly lower cost many beginning drummers in the 60's started out on Club Dates. |
