A slow-moving Norfolk Southern Eastbound with the best sounding K5H horn I have ever heard passes by the Bayview Road crossing in Hamburg, NY in February 1995. Why were news crews there? A person driving a minivan went around the gates and was struck and killed by a Conrail train on the adjacent conrail tracks 20 feet away from NS. The irony? Take a look at the side of the first NS locomotive and you tell me.

 | Norfolk Southern Surprise Eastbound at Hamburg, NY - 4/19/08 I was set up for a Norfolk Southern westbound freight to pass me but it turned out to be an eastbound so I had just enough time to sprint with camera in hand to a better location to film the train. This is the Lakeview Road crossing in Hamburg, NY. My scanner radio fooled me here. I heard a transmission that said "NS clear Lakeview," which last time was a westbound freight. Apparently there are two "Lakeviews" to clear on either side of the crossing. |
