Description:
A power pole set fire to the bush on 7-Feb-09. It quickly grew out of control, and demanded more resources than we had to throw at it. A wind change caught us out when it crossed the road behind us within minutes. There was a while where we did not know if we could get out, but had an unknown carpark to go to try to ride it out. The Cape Naturaliste lighthouse is a historic site, along with the keepers houses around it. There were quite a few tourists there that had to be escorted out through the fire. Luckily the water bombers saved the day, by wetting down the track behind us, even drenching one of the guys that was too close. We continued on late into the night, and started again before dawn, after the sun rises, you can see Bunker Bay right next to us.

 | Fires near Traralgon South 7th Feb 2009 This is one of three videos I took last Saturday a couple of hours before being evacuated. I aploligise for my bad filming, but my excuses are: The glitches: The heat was roughly 46.5 degrees celcuis and I had to run inside every few minutes to cool down (and I believe the camera wasn't too fond of such heat either) The shaking: The wind was extremely strong (as shown in the vdeo) - to hold such a stupid little compact camera and to stop the shaking was very hard.
