WTF? RTU's in Phoenix, AZ that were installed per code?

Description:
Down on 107th ave near Indian School Rd on the west valley I noticed something RARE in the Phoenix, AZ area. RoofTop Heat Pumps installed per code! These units had level catwalks errected along side them so a service tech could have a save place to stand on when servicing these rooftop units. The original set up appears to be from the late 70's or early 80's. This is actually a code requirement when installing rooftop equipment on pitched rooftops. You find this in other areas of the country EXCEPT for Arizona! This is the ONLY place in this area that I have seen these being used. I've seen them in California though. But they probably enforce codes a little better over there. The LOOSER builders, architects, etc from California usually come to Arizona where their ignorance is bliss! Looks like we had ONE EXCEPTION with whoever designed these units once apon a time...

We need Code Enforcement in Phoenix, AZ - Vol I
In the Phoenix area of Arizona (Maricop County), we have a serious problem with the lack (or practically NILL) mechanical, electrical, and safety code enforcement. The HVAC industry is full of undertrained installers and technicians and just outright HACKS! The HVAC contractors easily hire installers and technicians and send them out to install and service the equipment with no one to ensure they are properly trained or certified to do the job properly. When I was an installer and technician ...
Small Reach In Repair - Adding Schrader Valves
Well I just installed Service Pack 1 for Vista and it fixed a few issues with Windows Movie Maker when using some new file formats with the El Cheapo Poloroid Digital Camera I am now using to replace the broken Kodak. Some of the video I was able to speed up to 4 times the normal speed in a new effort to keep the total length under 10 minutes rather than cutting out more of the scenes. In this video I did a typical diagnosis and repair on a small one door reach in cooler. The cooler was a ...
Old Goettl AC Repair - Part II
**Be sure to watch Part I first** So the next day I had to go back and install the correct part in this Battle Axe Goettl where my brother lives. Video quality is better because I had my Kodak Camera this time. :)
Trane Clean Effects Air Cleaner - Bad Install!
This is a Trane "Clean Effects" Electronic Air Cleaner. This HVAC company who clearly doesn't believe in "Do the job right, or don't do it at all" has done it again! This time they sold the customer a Trane Clean Effects with their new HVAC system. One problem though... you can't get part of the filter out to clean it!!!
Old Goettl AC Repair - Part I
Well my brother called me Sunday when his AC quit. He is renting a house from my uncle that is otherwise just loaded full of storage crap. The 25 year old Goettl Heat Pump is still chucgging along. The actual problem was the t-stat went bad and shorted the transformer. He told me the t-stat was reading 32 degrees so all I brought with me was my tool bag and a t-stat. He lives over an hour away from me. So we were depserate for a transformer to get it running so we went to Home Depot. The ...

plastic Sprinkler Pipe in the Attic - Home Builder Blunder!
Another sprinkler pipe in the attic and mounted on the catwalk where the HVAC technician needs to stand! In the Phoenix area the city brilliantly decided that on larger square footage homes, the builders are required to install Fire Sprinklers. But of course the city doesn't actually ENFORCE proper building, mechanical or safety codes on these tract homes! The inspectors seem to be complete idiots or just corrupt to pass these inspections for these retarded builders! The Sprinkler Pipe is ...
Stupid commercial rooftop access! - A.K.A. Suicide Ladders!
Here's a video of a Suicide Ladder rooftop access on a newer commercial business in Sun City West, AZ. This one is retarded as the ladder is on one wall, and then you have to practically jump from the ladder and through a HALF-DOOR to get onto the rooftop where the condenser units are located. It's even more fun when you have to carry more than just your tool bag onto the rooftop. Clearly another example of how BAD the building designers (architects) and builders are in the Phoenix, AZ area ...
