Here our airport representatives and official Skycap Porters will assist you with check in for your flight to Helsinki and onward connecting flight to Rovaniemi, the gateway to Lapland. On arrival we transfer to our hotel for our two night stay, where dinner is served. Rovaniemi is a modern city, surrounded by high wooded fells and situated at the confluence of Finlands longest river, the Kemijoki with the Ounasjoki. Whilst here, we experience a true highlight of our tour as we visit a local reindeer farm, where we are greeted by a Lapp family adorned in native costume. Due to the farms northerly location, we have the opportunity to participate in the ritual Crossing the Arctic Circle, performed by the reindeer herders in a traditional Lapp tepee, known as a Kota. As we sit around the campfire, we hear tales of old Lapland, allowing us a deeper insight into their customs and superstitions and providing you with a memorable experience. The following morning we journey south to Posio and Kuusamo. Considered as one of Europes last wilderness areas, Kuusamo provides a varied landscape, from fells to high wooded hills and steep-sided canyons. Following time to marvel at this nature lovers paradise we check in to our overnight hotel, for dinner. On the 4th day of our tour we travel through some of Finlands most beautiful hill-country to Eastern Finland. Tonight we stay in traditional Karelian style log chalets set in picturesque grounds in Nurmes, where we enjoy a typical Karelian dinner and entertainment. After an unforgettable evening, we travel to the capital of the Savo province, Kuopio, known for its humorous people and relaxed atmosphere. Whilst here dont miss the chance to witness the famous market, with its variety of home grown produce and locally made handicrafts. The colourful and bustling harbour is a sight to behold and our cruise on the lake will offer a most rewarding spectacle, before returning to our centrally located hotel in time for dinner. The next day sees us departing to the island town of Savonlinna, with its imposing medieval Olavinlinna Castle. From this charming town we view the worlds largest wooden church at Kerimaki and visit the Nordic countries biggest art centre, the Retretti Art Museum. We next cross one of Finlands most famous landmarks, the Punkaharju Ridge to the delightful town of Lappeenranta and our overnight hotel. Following dinner you are at leisure to relax and explore the magical waterfront of the Lake Saimaa. Our journey takes us next to the oldest town of Finland, Hameenlinna, birth place of Jean Sibelius. After time to explore, we continue to Turku, our base for the next two nights. This town provides many interesting sights, including the market place and the cathedral and castle, showcasing Finlands colourful and historic past. Why not visit the Botanical Gardens or take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the River Aura with its floating restaurants, island cruise boats and sailing ships. As the 9th day of our tour approaches, we stop at the glorious Tammisaari, with its idyllic seaside town character, before travelling on to the coastal town of Old Porvoo. Here you will be enchanted by the 15th century cathedral and the many wooden houses, lining the winding cobbled lanes. Later in the day we arrive in the Finnish capital, Helsinki, our base for the next three nights. The unique waterfront location and the city centres neo-classical architecture, dominated by the atmospheric Temppeliaukio Church, makes Helsinki is a joy to visit. From Helsinki, we take a short cruise across the Gulf of Finland to Tallinn, the stunning capital city of Estonia. On arrival we have a guided tour, featuring Tallinns most intriguing sights, from the medieval streets and houses of the Old Town to the Olympic sports centre at Pirita and the Presidents Palace in Kadriorg. Our tour concludes at Toompea, the highest point in the Old Town, where we experience breathtaking views, before returning to Helsinki. The Daughter of the Baltic, Helsinki has for centuries encompassed both eastern and western cultures. Whilst here, our included tour will familiarise you with the many sights including Senate Square, Kaivopuisto Park, the Presidential Palace and the new Opera House. Following our tour you are free to discover the delights of this cosmopolitan city for yourself and savour the pleasures of our tour.
