On each voyage stopping in Chennai, India, students have the chance to participate in a service project in a Dalit village. Through a partnership with the Bridge Education Trust, Semester at Sea students have done service projects in 40 Dalit villages over the last 20 years.

Here in Chennai, India, the students from SRM University in Kattankulatur, Kancheepuram district, Ramapuram welcome SAS students to their campus for a meal and conversation and an evening of cultural exchange.

Semester at Sea overview - part 3
Semester at Sea is a multi-country study abroad program that educates individuals for leadership, service, and success in shaping our interdependent world. During a fall or spring semester, students experience 10-12 countries while circumnavigating the globe, earning 12-15 credits from the University of Virginia (U.Va.). Summer semesters are more regionally focused, usually featuring 8 countries. Students earn 9-12 credits from U.Va. on summer voyages.
