Yang Jing with Sonic Calligraphy: Lan Hua Hua
Sonic Calligraphy featuring Yang Jing and Willy Kotoun. "Sonic Calligraphy" began originally as the colorful duo program of the Chinese American jazz singer Peggy Chew and Swiss pianist Adrian Frey. Now the group has expanded to include master percussionist Willy Kotoun and special guest from Beijing, Yang Jing on pipa (Chinese lute). With this instrumentation, the group develops a hypnotic and unique cross-cultural blend of music where modern jazz concepts meet Asian sensibilities through folk melodies from China, poetry from the Tang dynasty, jazz standards from Wayne Shorter and original songs from the pianist. ©2006, Sonic Calligraphy For more information see www.soniccalligraphy.com www.yangjingmusic.com (less)

Yang Jing Pipa Demonstration
"Yang Jing's music combines a deep cultural background and an extreme power of un-derstanding music with a virtuoso technique. Bursting with creativity she celebrates the coming of a new era in music." (Music Weekly). Miss Yang found her distinctive musical character through studies of the ancient pieces of an ancient culture and the most contem-porary music of the world. Rooted in the millennium-old tradition of Chinese music, she builds on a vast amalgam of musical history from the East and West. The consequences of this are sometimes musical poetry, sometimes powerful unheard-of sounds. Her concerts in various forms, solo, concerto, chamber or improvisation concerts can be heard in the major music halls around the globe. More information see www.yangjingmusic.com

Yang Jing and Pierre Favre: Magic Moments from Unique Duo
Yang Jing, Pipa and Pierre Favre, drums and percussion Magic Moments from Unique Duo Improvisations "...A different highlight of the festival rests in calm restraint and interactive discipline - the duo Pierre Favre, drums and Yang Jing, pipa offered a musical experience of unexpected high meditative intensity."
Christian Broecking in Frankfurter Rundschau, December 5, 2005

"...With virtuosity Yang Jing showed how musical values prevail over flamenco technique. Her duo with the Swiss drummer Pierre Favre revealed a very graceful and dynamicly touching music."
Ueli Bernays in Neue Zürcher Zeitung, November 28, 2005

"...Even though Favre as well as the highly decorated pipa master from Beijing explored different areas of the world and styles, the exoticism vanished after a short period of adjusting the ears. What was far more intriguing was how instruments so different in sound and dynamics are able to tell stories together."
Frank von Niederhäusern in Tages Anzeiger, November 28, 2005
