Leevan Yearwood block training
Leevan Yearwood block training before senior AAA championships
Leon Baptiste
Leon was 15 years old when he first took up sprinting. He was originally a football player, but suffered a knee injury that meant that he couldn't do a lot of twisting and turning. However, he could still run in a straight line so decided to take up sprinting. Leon made his breakthrough in 2001 when he won the Schools International in Ireland. He has since won both Southern and AAA Junior titles, made his international debut, won the English Schools title and the National Junior League final. Leon was voted the British Junior male athlete of 2003 by the Athletics Writers after a year in which he won European Junior gold medals at 100m (the ninth British winner in the last 11 Championships) and 4x100m relay. He also won the sprint double at the AAA U20 Championships and ended the year with a win in the European Junior Clubs Cup at 200m, his favourite distance. Leon combines training with studying and working in the garden centre at B&Q.
